Take Out Tuesday
Pin It

Instead of posting a Tuesday Ten blog today, I am doing another Tuesday themed post... Take Out Tuesday!

Between work, working out and working to just keep it together, it’s tough to find time to hang with girlfriends when you’re going at full speed 24/7. Needless to say, that’s why I try to do Take Out Tuesday once a month with my girlfriends. (It’s not always on Tuesday, but we try.) It’s a fun excuse to get together with my girlfriends during the week. Usually all of us grab salads and convene at one of our apartments with a bottle of wine. Other times, we get together and cook a meal. Regardless, these mid-week rendezvous help break up the week and remind me that there’s more to life than just work. And there happens to be some cold hard facts as to why this “girl time” makes me feel this way….

According to the head of psychiatry at Stanford, one of the best things a woman can do for her health is to “nurture her relationships with her girlfriends.” Apparently, we connect with one another differently than men. We provide support systems that help one another cope with stress and difficult life experiences. When we physically spend time with our girlfriends, we create more serotonin. (This means a phone call will not suffice.) According to Wikipedia, serotonin is a brain chemical that promotes feelings of well-being and happiness. Needless to say, it’s easy to write off “girl time” since it seems like such a leisurely activity. But if you ask the professor at Stanford, he would argue that the “failure to create and maintain quality personal relationships with others is as dangerous to our physical health as smoking!” Yikes.

So pass this post along to your gal pals and pencil your next Take Out Tuesday into your planner… And when you guys finally get together, remember to cheers to good friendships and good health!

Do you and your girlfriends do something similar to my Take Out Tuesday? Tell me about it in the comments below.

XO Lauren

P.S. This is one of my New Year's resolutions! I'm really trying to follow through!

My bestie & I have bar confessions almost every Monday or Tuesday. Preferrably over a martini we talk, laugh, sometimes we even tear. We just let it all out!! It's fun & def. a stress reliever.

I also have a book club 'Bookworm Beauties' and we get together every month. We go to an event, restaurants, theatres, or one of our cozy apartments and we chit chat about the book of the month and lots of other girlie stuff.

Most of the times we do it on Friday. Go out for coffee or shopping or just eat something. it doesn'y matter what we do, we just like to be together :)

How funny, a couple of my girl friends and I meet up every 3rd/4th Thursday of the month to catch up and enjoy dinner and happy hour. We are meeting up tonight!

We have been meeting up since summer last year. It's a good way to keep in touch, because we all don't see or hear from eachother everyday or even every other week. It definitely helps that one person is in charge of coordinating it and is on top of it.

I have another group of girl friends and we meet for an artwalk that's held downtown every first Friday of the month. We drink wine and browse the galleries and always have stories to tell afterwards.

I definitely cannot live without my quality girl time!

Right now we just do like a phone call and we all would watch the same movie. It is just because we are all over the place at the moment haha. When we do get together when we go home its like a big hug party. We go out all together once or twice a year because of our busy schedules we have.

My friends and I do the same thing, accept we call it Wine and Dine Wednesdays! It's nice to have a little wine or even a cocktail in the middle of the week to relax you and actual enjoy and appreciate life.

I'm forwarding this post to my friends..asap. As we get older, it's harder for us to keep in touch (as I think it is for everyone) but making time is so important and I always feel so much better after a night with the girlies :)

sounds like a great reason to squash drama thats going on between friends

YES! We have "Tasty Tuesday" One person cooks the meal and someone else brings a specialty drink. We usually try to make it as foreign or as Southern as possible. We turn all electronics off and we just visit over our meal (which can be tasty or not) and enjoy time together. Too often that time is robbed from us with the distractions of everyday life.
